Counsel to Bullitt County Board of Education (current enrollment over 13,000 students) for over 30 years; services include drafting and implementing policies relating to students and certified/classified staff; presenting charges against certified staff; defending special education plans; defending the board and superintendent in grievance and arbitration hearings under labor construction contracts; advising the board and superintendent on day-to-day contract (including capital construction projects); personnel and pupil issues; serving as spokesperson to the print, radio and video media on delicate district issues.

Former Advisor to Jefferson County Head Start Policy Council (18 months).

Originated the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association (KRTA) “Legaline” in 1991 (an “800″ telephone line providing legal advice and documents to the 26,000 KRTA members).

Presenter at school law seminars sponsored by NBI and KY Council of School Board Attorneys.


Practice and appearance before the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance, Commission for Health Economics Control, Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Public Service Commission, Personnel Board, Underground Tank Commission, Division of Air, Jefferson County Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment.

Former counsel to Bullitt County Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment (4 years), City of Shepherdsville (4 years), Salt River Water District (3 years) and Bullitt County Health Department (6 years).

Former Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Bullitt County (1 year).

Served as Legal Intern to Kentucky State Police (1 year); responsibilities included review of legislation and drafting proposed administrative regulations.

Assisted local government representatives in securing new interstate interchange for Bullitt County at mile marker 114 on I-65.


Local Counsel to Browning Investments of Indianapolis, IN, developer of Velocity 65, a 350 acre industrial development in South Shepherdsville. (Click here for more information about this project.)

Local counsel and corporate secretary to Speyside Cooperage Kentucky, Inc., counsel to Summitt Trucking, and local counsel to Sabert in establishing a one million square foot manufacturing and distribution plant.

Local insurance defense counsel for Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, serving insureds in Bullitt, Nelson, Spencer and Shelby counties for over 36 years.

Community relations and insurance defense as local counsel to Waste Management of Kentucky, Inc., following Shepherdsville train derailment of November 1991.

Land use, zoning and real estate (representative projects include: Velocity 65, Walmart, Panera, Starbucks, Zaxby’s and Cheetah Car Wash.)

Immediate past president of the Board of Directors of the KY School Board Association Council of School Board Attorneys for 2017/2018.

Married for 37 years to the former Elaine Becker. Marc Farris, Eric and Elaine’s son, graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in May 2010. Marc has served as a clerk to the Hon. Faith Hochberg, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and to Hon. Patty Schwartz, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Marc is now an Assistant Kentucky Attorney General. Marc and his wife, Niki Gupta, MD, reside in Lexington, KY. Eric and Elaine’s daughter, Tracey, graduated cum laude from Kenyon College in May 2010 and secured her Masters of Science in Education from Northwestern University in 2013. While at Kenyon, she was captain of the women’s soccer team, chair of the campus social board and a member of student council. Tracey now works in the Commissioner’s Office of the Texas Education Authority in Austin, Texas, where she resides with her husband, Justin Wiesenfeld.
